Jodhpur
Also Known as the “Gateway to Thar”, it is famous for its Mehrangarh fort, blue houses, temples, sweets and snacks. Jodhpur, the second largest city in Rajasthan has a fascinating past. The city was built as the new capital of the state of Marwar to replace the ancient capital Mandore, the ruins of which can be seen near what is now the Mandore Gardens. Jodhpur is also known as the Blue City, an apt name as most houses in the old city are shades of blue. This is particularly noticeable on the north side of the town, known as Brahmpuri for the many Brahmins that live there. Jodhpur is one of the most enchanting cities of Rajasthan, with its mighty Mehrangarh fort overlooking the city. An architectural masterpiece in itself, Mehrangarh Fort is a magnificent fort and is among one of the largest forts in Rajasthan.
Main Attraction
The main attractions of the city include Jaswant Thada, Ghanta Ghar, Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace and many beautiful lakes and temples. The Marwar festival and the Nagaur festival are the two most popular festivals in Jodhpur.
Myths
It is said that hermit called Cheeria Nathji, the lord of birds, cursed this land with hot and thirsty fate. This is the reason why some of the residents still believe that they face drought in every three and four years even after so much of rain.
