Agra Fort
Situated on the banks of river Yamuna in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, this huge fort was built by the Mughal emperor Akbar between 1565 and 1573 AD. It is located on the banks of river Yamuna, just two and a half kilometers from Taj Mahal, which is one of the 7 wonders of the world in Agra. The Red Fort in Agra is spread over a radius of three kilometers and is surrounded by a 70 feet high wall. There are four main gates around the fort. One of these gates is known as Khizri Gate and it opens towards the river front. This fort is constructed with red sandstone; hence this fort is also called the “Red Fort” of Agra. Due to its grandeur and attractiveness, it is also one of the main tourist destinations in India. Inside the premises of this huge fort, the finest buildings of the Mughals, including the Pearl Mosque, Diwan-i-Aam, Jahangiri Mahal, Moti Masjid, Pearl Mosque, remain.
Best time to visit
The best season to visit Agra Fort is from October last to beginning March. It is also peak tourist season in Agra. The weather is pleasant overall during the winter and scorching sun and humidity is prevalent during the summer and monsoon seasons.
